About Doug Thorpe Group
Clarity for the work that cannot stay unresolved.
Doug Thorpe Group is built for leaders carrying a consequential decision, a leadership tension, or an execution constraint that needs an honest working conversation—not another generic playbook.
Executive perspective
The issue is rarely just one issue.
Leaders are often asked to move quickly while holding competing priorities, incomplete information, team dynamics, and real consequences. The visible problem may be a stalled priority, unclear accountability, a difficult transition, or a decision that keeps returning to the same desk.
Doug's approach is direct and practical: surface the constraint, test the assumptions around it, and identify the next move that the work can support. Coaching and consultation can meet the situation at different levels, but both begin with the context already in front of you.
Doug's background
Perspective built in the work, not around it.
Doug's point of view was shaped by responsibility before it was shaped by coaching. He began as a U.S. Army officer and rose to Captain, then spent two decades in banking leadership through three mergers. From there, he formed a consulting business, built and led companies, and moved into executive coaching and advisory work.
- Military leadership
- U.S. Army officer, promoted to Captain.
- Banking leadership
- Two decades in management and leadership at Texas Commerce Bank.
- Operator's lens
- Entrepreneur, company operator, and management consultant.
- Today
- Executive coach and leadership advisor to business owners and senior teams.
That range of experience keeps the conversation grounded: clear on the human stakes, practical about the operating realities, and focused on what the next move requires.
The EDGE framework
A practical lens for the full operating picture.
EDGE gives a leadership conversation a durable structure. It helps separate the apparent issue from the conditions around it, so the next decision is grounded in the work rather than a generic answer.
- 01
People
The leadership expectations, decision rights, trust, and accountability shaping the work.
- 02
Process
The operating rhythms, handoffs, priorities, and rules that either support momentum or slow it down.
- 03
Product
The offer, work, or strategic choice that needs a clearer point of view and a decisive next step.
- 04
Performance
The outcomes, ownership, and cadence that make progress visible without adding unnecessary noise.
The first conversation
Bring the pressure point. Leave with a clearer way to work it.
Start with the decision, tension, or friction that needs attention now. The initial conversation makes space to clarify what is at stake, examine where People, Process, Product, and Performance are shaping the situation, and decide whether a focused coaching or consultation engagement is the right next step.
The goal is a candid, useful conversation that respects the particulars of your role, team, timing, and tradeoffs.
